He's Getting Big!

I took Benjamin in to the pediatrician on his one-month birthday, and he weighed 10 lbs 8 oz! That's a lot of weight for one month! Let's hope he doesn't keep it up at that rate! He still has most of his hair, including the hair on his ears. I was hoping that would go away! But his eyes have turned out to be a dark blue--they are beautiful! I went to my friend Shannah's house yesterday. She just had her baby girl a few days ago, and she is tiny!! I thought my little guy was small, but he's a giant compared to her! It's funny. Gotta go.

Long Time, No Blog

It hasn't been that long, but I guess I should write something to keep you all coming back, right? Well, things are going splendidly, except for the whole lack-of-sleep thing (details, details). Benji will be one month old on Friday--crazy! I'll take him in for his Hep B vaccination shot and see how much he weighs--he's got to be over 8 pounds by now. He's still my little peanut baby, but he's definitely getting bigger. He has a little double chin that is so cute, I just can't even stand it. He did pretty good sleeping last night; he spent most of the time in his bouncy chair. I wonder if he might have a bit of reflux, because he's not particularly fond of sleeping flat on his back. On verra. We went to Ikea yesterday. Oh, how I love that store! I seriously bought five rugs (okay, one was a doormat). I'm not exactly sure what I'll do with them all, but I feel good knowing we will protect the carpet. Benji is a pretty good little shopper . . . when his belly is full and his diaper is clean. As thrilled as you all are to hear of my baby's adventures, I would like to comment on the presidential race. I'm so over it. I really wish I could go for an entire day without hearing the words "Obama" or "Clinton." It has become so mean and overblown, and j'en ai marre. Seriously--can we move on the something more important, like March Madness, or the return of Grey's Anatomy?

A Webding Mishap?

Well, I did choose webdings as my font for that last posting, but whenever I look at it, I can read it. I don't know what your problem is. So this is what I wrote; it's just a repeat of the last posting, in case you are interested. If you aren't, that's mok. I'm not offended.

Just Another Day

So there's not much news to report; I did sleep for about three hours straight this morning, with some naps as well, so although we got up around 4 a.m., I'm feeling relatively well rested. I think the bedtime bath did our little man some good, even if it was his second bath that day (due to a lovely blow-out). It really shouldn't surprise me that a bath will get him ready to sleep . . . I guess I just have to figure these things out on my own. Benjamin is getting bigger. He's starting to fit into his little 0-3 outfits, and his cheeks are getting a bit chubby. It's exciting to watch him grow and change from day to day, even if it is a little sad knowing he will never be this little again. Still--he is awake more often, and we get to see his eyes open sometimes (they are still that dark blue/grey newborn color). He doesn't really interact yet, but he does smile (and giggle) sometimes in his sleep. I live for those moments. He truly is the sweetest little guy, even if he keeps me up all night. Let's talk about ye olde breast pump. It's getting pretty old. Benji is eating mostly breast milk, with some formula (he doesn't show a real preference, although he was kind-of pukey after a bottle of formula last night). He'll nurse sometimes, and he is getting better at it, but it's a love-hate kind of thing. Sometimes he takes a good half-hour to eat, and I can't really nurse him in public. So I'm pumping a lot, which is a big pain--I'm supposed to do it every 2-3 hours. I know it's good for him, but there's the little nagging voice in the back of my brain that says, "You were given formula as a baby, and you turned out all right," and there's the fact that Costco formula, even at one can per week, costs less than the pump to rent. I don't know what we'll do or how long I can keep this up . . . we'll just see. It's better to have a sane mother than to be breast-fed, right?

Catching Up . . .

Well. It has been a little while, but I have been fairly busy trying to adjust to the whole "motherhood" thing. It's definitely different from anything I have ever done, since now my whole world revolves around this little creature. I never knew that I could feel so much pain, so much love, so much fear, and so much joy all at the same time. For those of you who didn't know, Benjamin Allen Cox was born on February 14th, 2008 at 4:56 p.m. I can't even say that labor was that bad, since I was only in it for a few hours before they rushed me in for a C-section. Recovery, however, has not been fun. I'll spare you the details, but I will say that my boobs are killing me! Anyway, he was two weeks early, but he weighed in at 7 lbs 10 oz and was 20 inches long--not too shabby. He may not be the world's cutest baby, but to me he is beautiful. He looks an awful lot like his Daddy, and he has a whole lot of hair. I just can't get over how amazing it is that something--someone--so miraculous could come out of me. I certainly am not worthy to be his mother, but Heavenly Father has seen fit to entrust me with this little soul so totally dependent on me. It is incredible. This is a link to my Picasa album with a few pictures of our little man. Enjoy! http://picasaweb.google.com/marynolancox/BabyBenjamin
