This Could Be

It's 9:18 a.m., and I'm pooped.  Days like today are frustrating: it can be nice to have down time, but there is so much that I need and want to do outside of work.  The fact that I actually have time to write this at work is a testament to how weird today is.  I'm pretty sure this is a rare occurrence (it certainly hasn't happened to me before, and I have been here for three months), and it is most likely connected to the fact that nobody (not even doctors!) wants to work on a holiday weekend.  Unfortunately, I'm stuck here because I need a pay check.  Grrrr.

I'm back in the Neuro room today, which is fine, except that we have one little case (that cancelled yesterday, and may very well do a repeat performance today) that doesn't start until 11:15 a.m.  I should be doing something more productive, like observing in Dental or helping turn over rooms, but this week has been killer.  I'm just exhausted.  At least my head is feeling better.

Speaking of . . . I'm not sure I wrote about my head injury.  I posted a couple of things on facebook, but I should really write it here, too.  It was a couple of weeks ago--the last time I was in the Neuro room, in fact.  We were doing some VP shunt revisions, and I was all set up and ready to go, but the circulator and the surgeon needed a few more minutes to get our patient ready.  I didn't want to break scrub, so I thought I'd sit for a couple of minutes.  I went to sit on a rolling stool, but either I missed it or someone kicked it out from underneath me (probably the former).  I fell to the floor and hit the back of my head on either the wheel post or the Gaymar machine.  I hopped up pretty quickly, and the nurse gave me an ice pack and I felt okay.  I went to the Employee Health nurse, who had me fill out some paperwork, then I had to go back downstairs to get it signed and take it back upstairs to her.  By the time I went back upstairs, I started feeling really tired and a little bit dizzy.  So she sent me to WorkMed (a worker's comp outpatient clinic; the same place I went for my nose last year).  I drove there, which probably wasn't the wisest thing I have done of late.  The doc checked me out and said I was probably okay, but she didn't want me to work or drive for a few days.  That sucked, but it was for a good reason.  As long as I didn't move too much or too quickly, I felt pretty good.  But then I'd start trying to get things done, and I'd start feeling dizzy again.  It took a good week to feel like things had gotten back into place.

Well, things just got exciting, and I may have a little more to do now.  Yay.
